Daughter Shares Pictures and Sweet Sentiment Grateful for Co-Parenting
Codie LaChelle McPhate recently shared what looked like a regular picture of a man mowing his lawn on Facebook. And, no one probably would have thought anything about it until they read the sweet (and important!) commentary she made about that now-viral photo.
Looks pretty typical, right? Well, here was the text portion of Codie’s Facebook post.
“This is my dad, mowing my mom’s lawn. They’ve been divorced 28 years. My mom has bad knees, and my step dad works out of town. When my younger siblings questioned “Why is your dad mowing moms lawn?” I told them “Because, She needed help, and he knew she couldn’t get out here to do it, so he did”
This is co parenting. This is how lucky I am to have 4 parents who respect each other, and know that at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is showing your children (Even ones that are 32 years old) how to treat people, and how to love your family, no matter how it came together.”
After the post went viral, the website Scary Mommy interviewed Codie who explained her parents’ heathy philosophy after divorce. “They’ve never let on that their relationship was bad or good. Its always been ‘We’re a family and that’s all you need to know,” she says. “To this day, I don’t even know why my parents got divorced. My mom always said, ‘It’s none of your business, it wasn’t your marriage, it was mine.’”
One more item of note. Codie’s Dad, who learned about the now-viral images and the story Codie had shared behind them, requested that Codie add a note to her post. Here’s what she added:
“Edit: My dad is humored at how many people have seen this. He wants everyone to know “I’m no saint”, He just wants to show others that you don’t need to act like an angelic pastor on lent, but that we should all choose kindness whenever we can.”
A great message for all of us. Cheers and well-done to Codie’s Mom and Dad!
